Site: Chinon, Indre-et-Loire
France's first industrial power reactor, a natural-uranium gas-graphite (UNGG) unit on the Loire. First went critical on 16 September 1962. Its spherical steel containment, nicknamed "La Boule," is now preserved as a museum. Permanently shut down 16 April 1973.
